The basics

Organisations tend to upgrade IT systems every three years. That means there are over 340 million obsolete computers worldwide at any time.

The companies that own these unwanted CPU's, monitors, printers and scanners, as well as manufacturers with unwanted byproducts, face major burdens in getting rid of them without adding to their carbon footprint and falling foul of European and local legislation, including WEEE, Sarbanes Oxley, SEAP, Basel ll, HIPAA, FISMA, FACT, ACT and StEp – Basically, you can no longer just put unwanted IT equipment on a skip.

Once we have securely audited, collected, catalogued and eradicated all data from the target equipment –assuming it cannot be sold on for reuse (see how we redeploy re-useable equipment) - we use a series of sophisticated, staged processing to ensure that all components are rendered into ecologically safe materials for disposal where they will realise the largest benefits for recycling and have no ecological impact if they are returned to the environment.

All these processes are run as economically as possible, both in terms of CO2 emissions and power consumption.
